Well, here we are...

At last, this blog is up and running.

I believe a little background is in order...

This little speck in the grand universe that is the internet shall serve as home to the ruminations, thought provoking epiphanies, and occasionally mindless silliness that we - Matt, Jenny, and Laura, create in our everyday lives. I'm not sure what this page will become, what we will talk about, or how it's all going to work exactly, but I suppose that's all part of the process right? What's the point of doing it if we know what to expect and how it's going to pan out right from the very beginning?

We live in a little apartment that we like to call The Dream House. 301 Ashley Avenue, Apartment B, Charleston, South Carolina, USA, Planet Earth. Just the three of us, our little family. We're all students; Jenny is a first year medical student at MUSC, and Matt and I are seniors at the College of Charleston studying to be high school English teachers. We like movies, good books, long conversations about social issues and politics, and stand up comedy, to name a few things. The title for this blog, as well as the name for our home itself, was inspired by Dane Cook's stand up routines.

I guess I won't try to be too awfully long winded on this introduction, as most of you reading this probably know us already anyway, but that's about us in a nutshell. I'll let Jenny and Matt speak for themselves in the next few posts, but here's a bit about me...

- LAURA -

I love having hobbies. I get bored very easily, and I need creative outlets to channel my energy into. Often, this translates into artsy things, like drawing (which I don't do well but enjoy anyway), decorating living spaces, and sewing. I both love and hate to sew. I love it because I generally dislike the fashion that can be found in most clothing stores and because I like the individuality I can express from having one of a kind things to wear. I hate it, because machines hate me, and my sewing machine is very old and often breaks in the middle of a project. The main reason I took up sewing as a hobby is because I got into costuming for anime and sci-fi conventions a couple of years ago, so I needed to be able to make things for my costumes. This leads me to another of my main hobbies - CON GOINGGGGG... I travel to nerd conventions all over the east coast, throughout the year. I love it. It's my main source of happiness, honestly. I've made so many friends through online costume groups for my favorite fandoms, many of which are now some of my very best friends. I make many trips to Atlanta, Georgia for gatherings there (they have a lot of cons there) and I even lived there this past summer to be closer to my con buddies. I loves them. Other hobbies of mine include tending my house plants, makeup design, collage art, and of course... THE INTERNETS. Matt is always telling me I spend entirely too much time online, and it's true. What can I say, I love it as a medium.

I came to Charleston about five years ago to start college at Charleston Southern University, and transfered to CofC after my freshman year. I met Matt in our EDFS 201 class, and we've been friends ever since. It's funny to see how our relationship has changed over the years. At first he was just a classroom friend that I saw every other day for lecture, then he became a close friend, I developed a huge crush on the guy for a while and we dated for a very short time... then we eventually became roommates, ha! Very cool and strange how those things work.

I met Jenny through Matt, on a few weekend visits she made to Charleston when she was still attending Erskine as an undergrad. I loved her sense of humor right away; we think so much alike. When I moved out of The Dream House which was at that time called The Ashram (that's a story for another post) in May 2007 (when I moved off to Atlanta for the summer) she moved in to take my room. Then, in August 2007 I came back and moved into the other room that had been vacated by our previous roommate. Living with Jenny was instantly awesome; I love her. We have this thing we do, where we talk with our hands. If I can't think of the word I need, I make a gesture to indicate it, which is usually a very obscure and vague gesture at that, but she always knows EXACTLY what I mean. It's seriously like we have a psychic connection or something, lol.

I guess that's it for me now. I'll write again soon!
